Daphne, you were a big part of our lives before you moved from Essex. Not only are you grandmother to me, but to my daughter Emma also. I was your bridesmaid, and as a child I remember coming to stay with you in Ongar. I would look forward to going to the toy shop in the High Street, and buying a new animal for my Britain's collection. I still have them today, and my own children and grandchildren have enjoyed playing with these too.
I remember bringing my friend Sue with me on one occasion, and she always remembers us paddling in the river. It is one of my favourite childhood photos, and she still remembers you and asked how you are.
I have so many memories. Before I learnt to drive you used to visit when the children were very young. You gave them some play equipment for the garden, a wooden climbing frame and some sit on toys. They had many years of fun with those. You would also sometimes take us out for the day, trips we looked forward to. Marc and Emma always enjoyed your visits. When Emma was a baby I would come to the Brentwood Spiritialist Church with Mum, Dad and my nan. You and David would be there and it was nice meeting up. I decided to have Emma's naming ceremony at this church, and still remember what a special day it was. I was so glad you and David could be there.
I also remember the time we all went to the New Forest at Easter. You hid Easter eggs around the forest clearing and another Easter memory was when we went on a short cruise to Sweden. The shop windows were beautiful decorated and it started a new tradition for us at home. You and I had a couple of trips at sea. I especially remember the time you came on the Thames Sailing Barge with me, to help look after a group of home educated children. What fun we had! Beach parties, sea shanties, putting up the barges sails, and the lovely meals that we cooked in the galley. You were always good company and young at heart.
As a family we enjoyed parties at Ongar, and have special memories of these times. The last time I spent time with you was when I was attending a course nearby. You invited me to stay with you, rather than stay in my campervan as planned. You made me very welcome, and as well as going out for a meal, we sat talking late into the night. It is a lovely memory to hold on to. You always took an interest in my work as a mental health nurse and decision to home educate my children, and will hold a cherished place in my heart, as we had shared interests and understanding.
We will miss you. But never forget you and all the times we shared xxx
